“We made our presence felt from the start today,” said the Gladbach head coach, with his side racing into a 2-0 lead after just 18 minutes.

He added: “We knew that it would be important to start strongly. We were tidy in possession, our positional play was good, and we were incisive and clinical going forward.”

After netting in the first half, winger Robin Hack added a third for Gladbach in the second half, however, Seoane acknowledged the period of pressure that Heidenheim put on the foals at the beginning of the second 45.

“We had to dig in defensively at the beginning of the second half, but we threw everything at it to keep them at bay and get through that phase. We started having more and more counter-attacking chances towards the end. It was a deserving win.”

Ex-Heidenheim man Tim Kleindienst also gave his thoughts on today’s win: “It was an excellent away performance. We always looked in control and we were clinical with our chances. Our goal to make it 3-0 came at the perfect time too, just as Heidenheim were getting stronger. That killed the game.”

The win saw Gladbach move up to eighth in the Bundesliga and was a crucial bounce back after last week’s 3-0 loss against Augsburg at Borussia Park. Kleindienst was keen to acknowledge the importance of bouncing back.

“The win feels even better after last week. I’m really happy that we’re managing to produce performances like this away from home at the moment. We need to keep going like this.”

Seoane’s Fohlenelf now turn their attention to a crucial clash on Friday evening against fellow European contenders Mainz.
