BOLOGNA, ITALY – MAY 24: Lorenzo Venturino of Genoa scores his team’s third goal past Federico Ravaglia of Bologna (obscured) during the Serie A match between Bologna and Genoa at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on May 24, 2025 in Bologna, Italy. (Photo by Alessandro Sabattini/Getty Images)
Bologna ended the campaign with a painless home defeat after celebrating the Coppa Italia victory, as Genoa teenager Lorenzo Venturino bagged his first Serie A goals on his full debut.
Juan Miranda sat out a ban, with Martin Erlic injured, as the hosts saw out the season celebrating their Coppa Italia triumph and consequent Europa League qualification. Genoa missed Ruslan Malinovskyi, Fabio Miretti, Alan Matturro, Hugo Cuenca and Johan Vasquez.
See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.
Dan Ndoye and Riccardo Orsolini had curlers just off target, but it was Genoa who broke the deadlock when an Aaron Martin corner found Vitinha on the edge of the area, to chest and hit the half-volley with his right foot into the far bottom corner.
The Grifone added another with Lorenzo Venturino’s first Serie A goal, a perfect way to mark his full debut for the club he always supported. The 18-year-old shrugged off a shirt tug, squirmed between two defenders and drilled low at the near post.
Ndoye just failed to get on the end of an Emil Holm cross at the back stick, but Venturino seemed incredulous at completing his brace just before half-time. Vitinha harassed Casale into an error and pulled back from the by-line for the teenager to sweep home. It made him the third youngest player to bag a brace in the top five European leagues this season.
Ndoye had strong penalty appeals rejected in first half stoppages, as he seemed to be caught by Vitinha, but the referee and VAR waved play on.
Lewis Ferguson should’ve got Bologna back into it, but was inches away from connecting with an inspired Santiago Castro pass that just needed to be tapped in.
Lorenzo De Silvestri’s header on a corner was smothered, until Orsolini did score with a sensational solo effort. He waited for a long ball to come down, controlled it with his shoulder and smashed the volley in off the underside of the crossbar with his left foot.
Nicolò Cambiaghi almost made it 3-2 on a Ferguson lay-off, his strike from a tricky angle fingertipped onto the crossbar by substitute Genoa goalkeeper Daniele Sommariva.
The shot-stopper was called into action again in stoppages, his gloves stung by Casale from 12 yards.
Bologna 1-3 Genoa
