SGE remain quiet on topic of stadium clashes for now
As of late Saturday evening, a promised statement from Eintracht Frankfurt regarding a fan incident in Saturday’s “Top-Spiel” had not yet emerged.

One assumes that the RheinMain club will address a scuffle between local police, the club’s security services, and the SGE ultras on Sunday.

The reason given by the SGE supporters, the local Frankfurt police, and the club itself was a scuffle outside Deutsche Bank Park. The police and the club issued statements condemning fan behavior on social media platform X (formerly twitter) during the early stages of the match, claiming that the SGE’s security stewards were attacked.

The Eintracht ultras punched back, themselves claiming that the police unnecessarily and inappropriately used tear gas to disperse the crowd. This was the root of the walk-out protest. Eintracht then retracted its initial statement and noted that the matter needed to be investigated further. SGE board member Philipp Retschke noted that he was “unable to judge” while speaking to Sky Germany after the game.

“The fay is not over and we need further information,” Retschke said, “There is of course conflicting information about the cause and starting point of massive clashes between our fans and the police. We’ll leave no stone unturned in trying to piece the puzzle together. We’ve learned that there were no major injuries and we hope it stays that way. Now it’s a question of finding out what happened.”

Eintracht has promised further comment once it can “get a clear picture on an unclear situation”. It’s now apparent that no such clarity has emerged tonight. Additional details will have to wait until Sunday.
