Liverpool manager Arne Slot has insisted that he is unconcerned by Mohamed Salah’s form, despite benching his vice-captain for the midweek Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.

It was the second time that Salah has been left out of Slot’s starting XI for a European game, and comes amid a strangely quiet run of form that has seen him go five games in all competition without a goal or an assist for the Anfield outfit.

After perhaps the best individual season in Premier League history last term, the 33-year-old finds himself on his worst drought in the competition since joining the Reds in 2017. He has gone seven top-flight games without scoring and is under question after being handed a new two-year deal in the spring.

Slot, though, insists that he is unperturbed by the apparent issues that Salah is facing.

“The main thing is that he always has scored goals for Liverpool,” Slot told the media.

“The last thing I worry about is Mo scoring goals again. He’s done that his entire life and I expect him to do that again in the upcoming weeks and months.

“In general in football, players miss chances and he is a human being. We are not used to him missing chances.”

Is Salah missing Trent?

Some have pointed to the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid as a crucial factor in Salah’s downturn.

Slot does not necessarily subscribe to this theory.

“It could be a factor as he played his entire Liverpool career with him, but he’s been in promising positions to score goals,” the Dutchman said.

“In general, quite a few changes in the squad from the summer mean everyone needs to find new connections again. It might have something to do with that.”

Salah had seven goals and seven assists at this same point of the campaign last term, when he finished with 34 strikes and 24 decisive passes across all competitions. This term, he has just three of each to his name so far.
