Yann Sommer urged Inter to ‘have courage’ against his former side Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final first leg, also admitting that the Nerazzurri ‘are not happy’ with their recent draw at Parma and must rediscover their ‘collective energy’.
Inter travel to Germany with the ambition of making a deep run in Europe once again, just two years after their 2023 final appearance, and the Swiss goalkeeper believes that avoiding behaviours that held them back in the latest outings will be ‘crucial’ to get a positive result.

Sommer: Inter need to ‘have courage’ against Bayern Munich
“Tomorrow it’s important to have courage, because they press high and aggressively,” Sommer said at a pre-match press conference attended by Football Italia.
“They’re a strong team, and it’s crucial that we play our game with the ball, bravely, with the goal of winning.”
“It’s nice to be back in Munich. I’m happy to play this match tomorrow in this beautiful stadium.”
“We’re not happy with the draw in Parma. It was an important match, because even against Udinese there were moments when it was too easy for the opponent to create chances.
“We are very strong when we have collective energy and keep our shape — those things will be very important for us tomorrow. In the last few games, we’ve been missing a bit of that.”

Inter come into this fixture boasting the best defence in the Champions League, but their tendency to concede more easily in Serie A has led many to question their domestic focus, with some suggesting they may be subconsciously prioritising European competition.
“It’s hard to explain the difference,” Sommer continued.
“Our goal is to make it difficult for opponents to create chances against us.
“We’ve always done that — in the Champions League, even more than in the league, but what we need to improve is the team energy, constantly talking to each other, and then it becomes hard for teams to face us. It’s normal not to always be at your best when you play every three days.
“For us, it’s important to prepare this match well, but the coach held a good meeting and a lot of it is in our hands. It’s important to put in a strong performance tomorrow, with quality when we have the ball. It’s also an exciting match, between two very strong teams.”
