Sport Bild Report: Gladbach opt against purchasing Jordan

Germany’s main sporting tabloid reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach have informed 1. FC Union Berlin of their decision not to pull American striker Jordan’s purchase clause. 

Despite some modest success (seven goals and four assists in 23 appearances across all competitions for Gladbach this year) Borussia Mönchengladbach have opted to employ the “return to sender” stamp on 27-year-old American striker Theoson “Jordan” Siebatcheu. Germany’s “Sport Bild” tabloid reports that Roland Virkus and the BMG front office have informed the nine-times-capped USMNT international’s parent club 1. FC Union Berlin that he will be returning after the season. The player also known as “Jordan Pefok” only scored four league goals for Union last season. 

Jordan joined Gladbach on loan from the Köpenick side this autumn following his disappointing initial year with Union.Hopes were high that he could thrive under former Young Boys Bern head-coach Gerardo Seoane. The German paper nevertheless reports that Seoane himself hasn’t been sufficiently impressed with his former player enough to recommend that the club’s front office pull the trigger on a reported €3 million purchase option. The report notes that Virkus and staff are also concerned about Jordan’s succesitbility to injury. 

With an Union contract still vlid through 2026, it’s not inconceivable at all that Jordan will get another chance in Köpenick. Union have reacted to their own offensively week season by selling off regular attackers such as Kevin Behrens and Sheraldo Becker during the most recent January transfer window. Replacements Yorbe Vertessen and Chris Bedia have failed to catch fire thus far. Youngsters Mikkel Kaufmann and Benedict Hollerbach may need more time to develop. Veteran Kevin Volland has only scored two league goals this year.
