FC St. Pauli have strengthened their defence with a new signing from Austria.

20-year-old Austrian centre-back Jannik Robatsch has joined FC St. Pauli from Austria Klagenfurt.

The Bundesliga outfit confirmed the deal on Friday, but left the length of the contract undisclosed.

“Jannik has a very exciting profile and experience on a good level,” said FC St. Pauli director of sport Andreas Bornemann.

“We think he has the ability to enter the competition for playing time right away but given his young age we want to give him the time he needs to get used to our style of play and the pace of the Bundesliga.”

Robatsch has made 41 appearances in the Austrian top flight and now feels ready to take the next step in his career.

“A series of young players have made the step-up to a higher level at FC St. Pauli in recent years. I’d like to take the opportunity to do the same and prove myself in the Bundesliga. I’m eager to get to know my new teammates, the city of Hamburg and, of course, the Millerntor and the fans,” he said.

Robatsch is St. Pauli’s second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Polish right-back Arkadiusz Pyrka from Piast Gliwice.
