Leonidas Stergiou is using the down time over international break to continue getting into optimal shape after recovering from his injury.

Recovering from an ankle injury, the defender has battled his way back through rehab and training, while starting to feel much better.

Over the past two weeks, he featured for the U23s in the 3.Liga with 0-0 draw against Wehen Wiesbaden and a 3-1 victory at TSG Hoffenheim II.

“The two appearances for the second team helped me gain match practice and get into a rhythm.

“I felt very good on the pitch. Especially after a long injury, it is important to gradually get back to optimal fitness.

“We had fun on the pitch and had a good start to the training week,” he said this morning, as Stuttgart’s first team resumed drills on Tuesday.
