Steve Cooper’s first victory over Bournemouth is NOT enough to win over Leicester fans yet, writes GRAHAM HILL – and he is well aware as Foxes faithful vent frustration

Steve Cooper desperately needed this first win of his Leicester City reign but he remains well aware of the task ahead.

An outstanding goal from on-loan Brighton teenager Facundo Buonanotte and an epic defensive display from Wout Faes earned Cooper’s side victory at the seventh attempt, albeit Bournemouth will feel unlucky to have come away with nothing.

But in the Foxes’ previous home game against Everton and during their Carabao Cup tie at Walsall, fans had vented their frustrations towards Cooper.

And when Bournemouth appeared to have levelled in the second half, there were rumblings from sections of the King Power Stadium until Evanilson was ruled offside.

At the end, Cooper’s celebrations were muted, with his attentions immediately turning to Leicester’s next game at Southampton.

In Cooper’s previous job, after taking Nottingham Forest back to the Premier League, there was goodwill shown towards him.

At Leicester he will have to earn that, which means winning more matches — something the manager says he is ‘obsessed’ with.

In his programme notes, Cooper addressed his relationship with the fans. He said: ‘From the point of view of the squad and staff, there is great spirit.

‘We are working hard towards a clearly defined way of playing and a performance level that will bring us the results we need.

‘I accept that requires a level of trust on the part of each of you.

‘My confidence in the players, my staff and the game plans is absolute. I know we will eventually be rewarded.

‘In the meantime we need your continued support and energy to help us through.’
