Stuttgart CEO on Undav negotiations: “We have a good chance”

VfB Stuttgart chairman Alexander Wehrle remains optimistic that an agreement can be reached to sign Brighton & Hove Albion striker Deniz Undav on a permanent basis.

Both Deniz Undav and VfB Stuttgart have made it clear that they’re keen to continue working together after the striker emerged as a key player for the club during his loan spell from Brighton & Hove Albion last season.

However, Stuttgart’s negotiations with Brighton to sign Undav permanently are proving difficult, with the English side having rejected an initial offer of 23 million plus bonuses, according to Bild.

Despite this, Stuttgart are still confident of agreeing a deal to sign the 27-year-old, according to the club’s CEO, Alexander Wehrle.

“We have a good chance with him,” Wehrle told BR24, adding:

“In the end it could be a question of time. At some point we might have to say: this is as far as we go. But that time has not yet come and the market will only really start to move after the European Championship.

“It was not for nothing that he has been called up to the German national team. And he is one hundred percent committed to us. That’s why we’re prepared to make a transfer with this financial volume, which is very high by our standards. However, we will not exceed certain limits, we will remain reasonable,” said Wehrle.

Wehrle hopes that Undav will be available for Stuttgart’s first competitive match of the 2024/25 season, the DFL-Supercup clash with Bayer Leverkusen on August 17.

“It would be nice to have the team sorted out for the first competitive match.”
