Szoboszlai ‘visibly shaken’ after medical emergency

Hungary’s assistant coach, Adam Szalai, is in stable condition after collapsing during the Nations League clash against the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

The incident occurred just seven minutes into the match, prompting an immediate play halt due to the medical emergency.

The game was paused for around 10 minutes as medical staff attended to Szalai. It was so bad, that even a large white sheet was used to shield the scene from view.

Following the resumption of the game, the Netherlands secured a 4-0 victory and advanced to the Nations League quarter-finals.

A statement from the Hungarian Football Association said: “Adam Szalai fell ill in the first minutes of the Netherlands-Hungary match, but his condition is stable and he is conscious.

“He was transported by ambulance to an Amsterdam hospital for examination.”

Liverpool midfielder and Hungary star, Dominik Szoboszlai was left visibly shaken and upset. Hewas left in tears during the incident as his coach was tended to.

He said after the game. “I just looked out onto the bench and I watched the whole thing.

“He did so much for the national team and for each and every player that he deserves to fight for him on the field. When we held a meeting, everyone said that we should continue for him and for nothing else.”

Goalkeeper Denes Dibusz added: “At first I only saw a leg twitching, then they said it was Adam Szalai. It was a very harrowing experience.”

Szalai is a former striker who earned 86 caps for his country before retiring in 2023. Over the course of his career, Szalai played for several well-known clubs, including Stuttgart, Mainz, Schalke, Hoffenheim, and Hannover in Germany. He also had spells in Spain with Real Madrid B and in Switzerland with Basel.
