On his 42nd international appearance, Jonathan Tah wore the captain’s armband for the German national team for the first time in Joshua Kimmich’s absence.

Speaking after Germany’s 2-0 win over Luxembourg, the Bayern Munich defender was brimming with pride.

“It was truly a huge honour for me, it means a lot,” Tah told reporters after the game.

“Right now, it’s not about me; it’s about qualifying for the World Cup,” the 29-year-old added.

“But I can say that I’m very, very proud and very, very grateful to have experienced this moment.”

If Joshua Kimmich remains sidelined for Germany’s final World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on Monday, Tah is likely to wear the captain’s armband once again.
