Tah's agent places last-minute pressure on Leverkusen: “Jona wants to leave.”

The “on again, off again” transfer saga involving Germany national team defender Jonathan Tah is now most assuredly “on again.” Tah’s potential move from Bundesliga champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen to German record champions FC Bayern München may now happen after all following acerbic public statements from Tah’s famous footballing agent Pini Zahavi may force Leverkusen’s hand. 

Tah signed on with Zahavi – who also represents former Bayern start Robert Lewandowski – in the spring of 2023. The change in management essentially signaled the player’s intent to get away from Germany’s red company team. Now, it appears, Zahavi is prepared to make sure that he delivers on the initial arrangement. Zahavi informed Germany’s “Sport Bild” tabloid that Tah still wants to move before the transfer window closes.

“We want to avoid a player as deserving as Jona leaving the club on a free transfer this summer,” Zahavi told the tabloid, confirming that Tah had no interest in extending his current contract set to expire at the end of the current season, “We’ve had several offers in recent weeks rejected in spite of his express wishes. We need to find a short-term [within the next 48 hours] solution.” 

“Jona made the decision to leave Bayer Leverkusen early this summer and communicated it to the club in several personal meetings.” Zahavi continued, “After nine years at Bayer, including the historic championship title last season, Jona now wants to take the next step in his career.”
