Werder Bremen put the final nail in the proverbial coffin of Gerardo Seoane on Sunday, as they secured a 4-0 victory against the Foals. However, Gladbach’s decision to part ways with Seoane – the fastest dismissal in the club’s history – was not solely down to results.

According to reports from Bild, the 46-year-old had lost the backing of significant parts of the squad, with accusations of poor communication and a failure to uphold performance-based selection.

Several players reportedly felt that Seoane favoured certain individuals regardless of form. Julian Weigl, once a mainstay under the Swiss coach, suddenly found himself sidelined in pre-season before leaving for Saudi Arabia.

Former captain Jonas Omlin also lost his starting role and place in the team council, while high-profile names such as Christoph Kramer and Florian Neuhaus were marginalised.

There were also reported tensions with the new captain Tim Kleindienst. Together with Weigl, the striker is said to have pushed for Tomas Cvancara to be dropped after what they perceived as a lacklustre display in the 4-3 defeat to Holstein Kiel.

Seoane, however, resisted and continued to select the Czech forward, which further strained relations.

Despite the fractured relationships, Seoane is understood to have contacted the entire squad after his dismissal to say goodbye personally.
