“The penalty came at the right moment” – Kovac reflects on Dortmund’s win in Copenhagen

PARKEN, COPENHAGEN (Bulinews): Niko Kovac watched his Borussia Dortmund side secure a 4-2 Champions League victory over FC Copenhagen at Parken on Tuesday night.

The first half left Kovac disappointed, with the score tied 1-1 at halftime. However, BVB came to life after the interval, eventually winning 4-2 after Ramy Bensebaini restored their lead from the penalty spot around the hour mark.

“We are very happy to have won this difficult away game. As I said at the press conference before the game, it wasn’t going to be easy, and you could see that today, especially in the first half. We played too slowly, only moving the ball sideways without any progression forward. In that situation, you can’t score goals or extend a lead,” Kovac said at the press conference after the game.

“In the second half, the team showed a much better face: more aggression, faster ball circulation. The penalty came at the right moment, you have to say that clearly, and it lifted us onto a wave that led to four goals. Taking this win was very important after our defeat in Munich.”

Kovac made five substitutions in the second half, with Fabio Silva among those brought on.

The Portuguese forward, who initially spent time on the sidelines after joining from Wolverhampton last summer, went on to score his first goal for BVB and earned praise from Kovac.

“Fabio was injured. He is coming along more and more, and I try to give him more minutes because he deserves them. He is very diligent in training, very precise, very clean in his execution, very team-oriented, and also a nice guy. That is very important. He also supports his teammates even when he doesn’t start,” Kovac said.

“I am very satisfied with his development, and I hope that sooner or later he will get more minutes. But if he comes on like that, that also makes me very satisfied.”
