Thiago Motta has outright denied that Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli told him that ‘I’m ashamed at having chosen you’ around a week before he was dismissed as Bianconeri head coach: “It’s these lies that I don’t intend to let pass.”

Motta gave a bombshell interview to Il Corriere della Sera, published on Saturday, in which he spoke about his Juventus departure, his relationship with his key players and some of his regrets during his time in Turin.

Motta’s relationship with Bianconeri sporting director Giuntoli was cast under the spotlight prior to the coach’s departure.

Giuntoli had given the coach his support following an unfortunate 3-0 loss against Fiorentina, which proved to be his last game in charge, but reports in the following week claimed that there was a heated exchange between the coach, director and CEO Maurizio Scanavino.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported at the time that Giuntoli told Motta: “I’m ashamed at having chosen you,” but the former Bianconeri head coach has denied that those words were ever spoken.

He told Corriere della Sera: “No, I never had the conversation that was written about, ever. And I never had a quarrel with the sporting director, never.

“We talked about how to improve the team, like always, and we did it with clarity and honesty, with different opinions, which again, is normal. It is these lies specifically that I do not intend to let pass.”
