Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has issued some advice to Liverpool after they secured a dramatic win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Arne Slot’s side clinched a 3-2 victory against the Spanish team at Anfield on Wednesday night, kicking off their league phase campaign with an important three points.

Virgil van Dijk netted the decisive goal in stoppage time after Liverpool’s 2-0 lead was wiped out by a Marcos Llorente double. The victory ensures the Reds continue their 100 percent start to the season across all competitions, boasting five wins out of five.

Despite Liverpool’s perfect record in their first five matches this season, each game has required a late goal to secure the win. In fact, Reds have also relinquished a two-goal lead three times this season, prompting Henry to issue a warning to Slot’s squad regarding their Champions League aspirations, reports the Liverpool Echo.

“I do think, from pre-season, they concede too many goals,” said Henry on CBS Sports Golazo.

“They got bailed out again the other day against Burnley, and you have to find a way to win games, so we’re not complaining about that

“But in the Champions League, if you concede too many goals, it’s a tough one to win.”

Liverpool are now gearing up to take on Everton in the Merseyside derby in the Premier League on Saturday for their next match. As for the Champions League, the Reds’ upcoming fixture will see them journey to face Galatasaray on 30 September.

“If you want to beat a team like Atletico, which is known and has an unbelievable mentality, you have to beat them with their own weapon as well and that is mentality,” Slot told reporters in his press conference.

“I think that’s what we showed again today, that we can beat them also by mentality. But I think we should have made it easier for ourselves.”
