Thousands of travelling Wrexham fans did not get to see the start of their side’s FA Cup clash with Blackburn after huge queues formed outside Ewood Park ahead of kick-off.

The fourth round clash was meant to be a historic occasion for the League Two club, with the winners set to get a home tie with Newcastle in the last 16.

But the evening quickly tuned sour when fans were kept outside the stadium due to logistical problems.

As the game got underway at 7.30pm, very few of the 7,000 Wrexham fans had actually made it to their seats.

Instead, they were stuck outside the turnstiles, waiting to be searched by security before making their way inside.

Supporters were left fuming with the way they were treated, with one insisting the game should not have started until fans had got inside the ground.

They posted: ‘@FA @BBCSportWales match should never of kicked off between Blackburn and Wrexham with so many away fans still outside. Fans stuck in stairwells and suitable access for the disabled fans. Then they wonder how disasters happen.’

Another fan posted at 7.32pm – two minutes after kick-off – a photo showing them still some way from the turnstiles as they labelled the situation a ‘shambles’.

The game is being shown on the BBC, and football reporter and Wrexham fan Bryn Law revealed some fans had taken to watching the game on their phones after failing to get into the ground on time.

Sammie Szmodics scored twice in the final 15 minutes of the first half to put Blackburn in control

‘Shambles… people watching the match on their phones,’ he wrote on X, after earlier describing the scenes outside the away end as ‘chaos’.

He claimed things did not get better when he went inside as he posted on X: ‘Inside but now can’t access the away seats.’

The disastrous organisation meant many Wrexham fans missed seeing their team take the lead through Andy Cannon in the 19th minute.

But Blackburn hit back thanks to a brace from Sammie Szmodics either side of a Sam Gallagher strike to take a 3-1 lead into the break.

Sondre Tronstad put the result beyond doubt after the break as Blackburn secured a 4-1 win to cruise into the next round.
