Roma’s Europa League exit means Inter, Lazio and Fiorentina are the only Serie A clubs still involved in European competitions, one for each tournament.

Inter beat Feyenoord 2-1 on Tuesday, qualifying for the Champions League quarter-finals where they will meet Bayern Munich.

Claudio Ranieri’s Roma lost 3-1 to Athletic Club on Thursday in the Europa League Round of 16, wasting their 2-1 win at the Stadio Olimpico from last week.

On the other hand, their city rivals Lazio were held to a 1-1 draw by Viktoria Plzen but still qualified for the Europa League quarter-finals with a 3-2 aggregate win. Lazio will face Bodo/Glimt in the next round.

Fiorentina overturned a 3-2 deficit against Panathinaikos in Florence later on, securing a 3-1 win and qualifying for the Conference League quarter-finals. The Tuscans’ opponents in the next phase will be NK Celje.

Inter, Lazio and Fiorentina are the only Serie A representatives remaining in European competitions this season.

Before Roma’s Europa League exit, Bologna, Milan, Juventus and Atalanta had been eliminated from the Champions League.

Bologna failed to advance through the league phase, while Atalanta, Milan, and Juventus were eliminated in the knock-out playoff.
