Toppmöller among candidates linked with Wolfsburg job

Dino Toppmöller is among the candidates named by Kicker to potentially replace Daniel Bauer as Wolfsburg head coach.

Daniel Bauer is under increasing scrutiny as VfL Wolfsburg head coach, with Saturday’s 2-3 defeat to FC Augsburg leaving the club winless in their last six Bundesliga games.

For now, Bauer remains in charge, but the 43-year-old faces mounting pressure to turn things around, with Wolfsburg now 15th in the table and level on points with St. Pauli in the relegation playoff spot.

Should a coaching change occur, Wolfsburg may turn to Dino Toppmöller, who was dismissed as Eintracht Frankfurt boss in January, Kicker reports. 

As the German outlet points out, Toppmöller knows Wolfsburg sporting director Pirmin Schwegler well from their time together in Frankfurt, and that connection could prove key.

Kicker also names Thomas Reis and Dieter Hecking, both currently unemployed, as potential replacements for Bauer.

Wolfsburg travel to VfB Stuttgart this weekend.
