Tottenham have had their first offer for Argentinian international attacking midfielder Nico Paz rejected, believed to be in the region of 42.5 million euros including add-ons. The Como midfielder caught the eye in his maiden season in Serie A, with a return of six league goals from 35 games, and Spurs hope to wrap up a deal before the transfer window slams shut bringing Paz in as a replacement for James Maddison, who will miss most of the season with a serious injury.
Maddison suffered a devastating knee injury in a pre-season friendly against Newcastle in South Korea on Sunday, and will now undergo surgery for his ACL, leaving him out for the majority of the upcoming season.
Spurs had been in the race to sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest, but a transfer fell through and the attacking midfielder opted to stay at his current club.
Tottenham have now been forced back into the transfer market as manager Thomas Frank feels the squad is a little short in the attacking area of the pitch, identifying Nico Paz as his preferred target.
Paz, who was born in Tenerife, Spain, but represents Argentina, came through Real Madrid’s youth ranks and even appeared four times in La Liga for the Spanish giants before moving to Como.
