Tottenham manager Igor Tudor might only have overseen two matches since arriving as manager at the North London club, but with their Premier League lives hanging by a thread, he is already “at risk of being fired”.
Spurs are in grave danger of dropping out of the Premier League for the first time. West Ham’s victory over Fulham on Wednesday means that they are just one point clear of the relegation zone ahead of Thursday’s clash with Crystal Palace.
Tudor goes into the game fighting for his job, according to Calciomercato, which reports the 47-year-old Croat could soon leave his post.
Igor Tudor: Tottenham boss turns nasty
Tudor arrived at Spurs in a firefighting role, having been sacked by Juventus in October. Since he joined the club on 14 February, he has overseen defeats against Arsenal (4-1) and Fulham (2-1).
While the defeats were disappointing, what has particularly alarmed Tottenham’s hierarchy is the lacklustre nature of the performance and the fact that the new boss was unable to improve the team’s attitude.
The new manager’s approach has not helped things. It is claimed that he has only increased tension around the club by blaming referees and also his own players.
We lacked everything.
– Igor Tudor after Tottenham’s Fulham defeat
Speaking after the Fulham match, he pinpointed the opening goal as a turning point – and blamed it on the officials.
“Nine out of ten people will say it was a foul. That’s obvious,” he said, later branding the referee’s decision as “ridiculous”.
But he was also scathing of his own team.
“We lacked everything,” he fumed. “It’s not a question of formation. It’s a question of attitude, personality, pace, and the ability to win duels.”
Tension building at Tottenham
Tudor’s hard-line approach has only helped to fuel an attitude of tension and concern at Tottenham.
After less than a month in charge, Spurs are ready to press the panic button again and are ready to sack a second manager this season.
Tudor’s exit is already being discussed as a live possibility, and another negative result against Crystal Palace could seal his fate.
