Trabzonspor willing to take Meunier off Dortmund's hands, Romano reports

Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that Borussia Dortmund might still retain hope of riding themselves of Thomas Meunier’s exorbitant salary before the season is out. 

After two potential deadline-day deals fell through, Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims that Turkish Süper Lig side Trabzonspor Kulübü have seen enough of Dortmund fullback recently to purchase the 32-year-old from the BVB. It remains no secret that Dortmund wishes to recoup some capital for the transfer bust once valued three times as high as he is today before joining the Bundesliga from PSG in the summer of 2020.

Meunier reportedly draws a €9 million salary from his current working papers, set to expire after the current season concludes. Injuries to Marius Wolf and Julian Ryerson (both on their way back) recently pushed Meunier back into BVB trainer Edin Terzic’s starting XI. The Belgian international has started the last seven league games. German press sources largely scored his performances as poor. He’s neither scored nor registered an assist.

The transfer window in Turkey remains open until February 9th, meaning there’s still plenty of time for Dortmund to finalize an outgoing transfer. Romano reports that negotiations between the two sides are entering the final stages, with only a few details left to be clarified. Meunier will almost surely be willing to take a pay cut in favor of playing prospects ahead of the chance to represent his home country in the coming summer’s Euros.
