The 2026 January transfer window is officially over for clubs in Europe’s top five leagues, however the rumour mill continues to churn.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through the biggest rumours and gossip from 5 February, including the latest updates on Sandro Tonali and Adam Wharton.
Sandro Tonali update
Sandro Tonali’s agent has spoken out on the possibility of leaving Newcastle after the player was linked with a stunning Deadline Day move to Arsenal.
Although a deal never appeared close, there is now a degree of uncertainty over Tonali’s long-term future after The Athletic claimed that agent Beppe Riso offered him to the Emirates club.
Riso has denied claims that he is seeking to engineer Tonali’s Newcastle exit – but he has admitted that he will explore the possibility of a move before the summer transfer window.
Adam Wharton price tag
Crystal Palace have reportedly set their asking price for Manchester United target Adam Wharton at €95 million ahead of a bidding war this summer.
Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur have all been heavily linked with a move for the 21-year-old in recent months, although Man Utd are considered to be the frontrunners in the race for his signature amid their pursuit of a new central midfielder.
The Guardian have previously claimed that Wharton is likely to cost in the region of €75m ahead of next season, but Spanish publication Fichajes state that Crystal Palace will instead demand a fee of €95m.
Atletico Madrid want Joel Ordonez
Atletico Madrid are reportedly set to pursue a move for Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez this summer.
Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for the Ecuador defender before opting to finalise a pre-agreement deal to sign Stade Rennais star Jeremy Jacquet in July, while La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have now entered the race for his signature.
That is according to Spanish publication Fichajes, who claim that Diego Simeone’s side are set to prioritise the signing of a new centre-back this summer. Ordonez has been earmarked as a top candidate for the role and it’s stated that he would be keen to complete a move to the Wanda Metropolitano.
Arsenal chase wonderkid striker
Arsenal are set to compete for the signing of Middlesbrough striker Cruz Ibeh during the upcoming summer transfer window, according to TEAMtalk
The 17-year-old centre forward has registered five goal contributions in 10 games in the U18 Premier League this season, and he has also found the back of the net on three occasions in three matches in the Premier League 2 for Middlesbrough’s U21 outfit.
Ibeh made his first-team debut for Middlesbrough during their 3-1 defeat to Fulham in the FA Cup third round in January, while he has been named in the matchday squad for two Championship fixtures so far this season.
Celtic close to signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Celtic are closing in on the signing of former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The Hoops have been pursuing the 32-year-old for several days but interest is poised to step up as the Glasgow giants seek to conclude talks rapidly to allow Oxlade-Chamberlain to be involved in their Europa League squad.
Contract negotiations with Oxlade-Chamberlain are said to be “advancing”, according to TEAMtalk, while and agreement between the player and club is “moving closer”, The Herald reports.
Cristiano Ronaldo ready to leave Al-Nassr
Cristiano Ronaldo is ready to push to leave the Saudi Pro League amid claims from the Manchester United and Real Madrid legend that his Al Nassr side are not being treated favourably by the authorities.
Ronaldo sat out Al Nassr’s 1-0 win over Al Riyadh on Monday and, according to ESPNFC, is also prepared to watch Friday’s clash against rivals Al-Ittihad from the sidelines.
Should the Portuguese not get the backing he wishes, he will ask to leave in the summer, one year before his contract expires.
