The transfer window may be over, but teams are already planning for January. Here are some of the biggest rumours from the last week.

Chelsea plotting Morgan Rogers swoop

Chelsea will be at the front of the queue for Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers if they feel he can be had for a reasonable price. The Blues would ideally like to pay less than the €100 million fee that has been touted in recent times.

Aston Villa’s rumoured attempts to hand the 23-year-old an improved contract for the second time in a year have so far yielded little tangible results. The versatile attacker could jump ship in 2026 if the Birmingham club’s struggles on and off the field persist.

Man Utd identify new midfield targets

Man Utd‘s search for a new midfielder continues after they failed to sign Brighton star Carlos Baleba in the summer. Although Ruben Amorim may not survive until the next window, bolstering the midfield will likely be on the agenda anyway.

With Baleba likely to be incredibly expensive, Man Utd are identifying alternative targets. Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, but he, too, will not come cheap. Brentford‘s Yegor Yarmolyuk could be a bargain contingency option.

Arsenal close in on double deal

Arsenal are making good progress in contract talks with William Saliba and Bukayo Saka. Sporting director Andrea Berta and manager Mikel Arteta are convinced that the pair will commit their long-term futures to the club.

Handing Saliba fresh terms is a particularly urgent matter as the Frenchman is a top target for Real Madrid for 2026. Los Blancos have been courting the centre-back for some time.

Exclusive: Celtic eye ambitious Raheem Sterling loan

FootballTransfers can reveal that Celtic are weighing up a bold January approach for Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling, who is part of the Blues’ ‘Bomb Squad’ and will not be reintegrated into the first team.

Brendan Rodgers was the man who gave Sterling his big break at Liverpool, and Celtic are wondering whether a six-month loan with a wage-sharing agreement is feasible. Sterling is Chelsea’s best-paid player, so the Stamford Bridge club would have to pay the vast majority of his salary.

Other transfer rumours

Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo has recommended that his club attempt a hugely ambitious swoop for Man City star Phil Foden, which could see them pay a record €130 million for the attacking midfielder.

Man Utd’s players are ‘perplexed’ by Kobbie Mainoo‘s lack of action under Ruben Amorim as Newcastle eye a January approach for the midfielder.

Chelsea are stepping up their pursuit of Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton due to Romeo Lavia‘s repeated injury issues.

Real Madrid have been informed by a mystery Premier League club that they would be prepared to pay up to €150m for Arda Guler in 2026, while Chelsea are said to be interested in Eduardo Camavinga.

Liverpool are plotting a January move for Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo, who also has a major admirer at Arsenal: Mikel Arteta.
