Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Liverpool remains very much up in the air, with interest coming from Real Madrid and his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Assuming there is no new deal signed with the Reds before the end of December, Alexander-Arnold will be able to open contract talks with foreign clubs from 1 January.

Liverpool are trying to head off this prospect by tying the 26-year-old defender, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €26.4 million, down to a new contract.

Liverpool ‘bending over backwards’ for Trent

Indeed, it has been claimed that the Anfield club have offered the player a huge deal.

“Liverpool are trying everything to convince Alexander-Arnold,” former Manchester United scout Mick Brown, who remains well connected, told Football Insider.

“They’re going to bend over backwards to keep him at the club.

“From what I’ve heard, they’re willing to put mega money on the table because they don’t want to lose him.

“They’ll consider, as well, how much it would cost to replace him. In a situation like this, offering him higher wages may help them save money.

“The perception of the fans matters too – they must be seen to be doing all they can.

“If they do everything in their remit to tie him down to a new deal and he still leaves, that’s his choice and the fans will have to accept it.

“But if he’s just allowed to walk away without much of an effort to keep him, there’ll be issues.”

Trent one of three Liverpool free agents

Liverpool find themselves in a tricky position, with the very real prospect that they could lose three of their leading stars for absolutely nothing in the summer.

As well as Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk’s deals also expire at the end of June 2025, with none of the trio guaranteed to remain at the club.

Alexander-Arnold appears the likeliest of the three to leave, so it would serve as a huge boost to Liverpool if they could persuade the defender to stay put.
