Trent Alexander-Arnold rubbed salt in the wounds of Man United supporters with a mocking gesture after Liverpool beat their rivals 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Arne Slot‘s side stormed to victory over the Red Devils on Sunday afternoon after Luis Diaz and Mohammed Salah combined to secure the emphatic victory.

After the match Liverpool defender Alexander-Arnold, who saw a goal ruled out for offside during the game, poked fun at home supporters as he exited the stadium.

In a video that appeared on X, Alexander-Arnold was seen making a ‘three’ gesture with his fingers – indicating the amount of goals Liverpool scored.

The 25-year-old wore a cheeky grin on his face as he walked through the car park at Old Trafford before boarding the Liverpool team bus.

The incident came after Liverpool's 3-0 victory over Man United

Some fans, however, were lead to believe that Alexander-Arnold flipped the middle finger at United supporters – with the angle of the video making it difficult to decipher.

However other images showed that it was clearly a ‘three’ gesture from the defender.

Liverpool fans will be delighted to see Alexander-Arnold in good spirits after the game, after previous concerns he’d already fallen out with Slot.

Alexander-Arnold cut a frustrated figure as he was substituted in the 72nd minute of Liverpool’s 2-0 win at home to Brentford, with the right-back having also been substituted against Ipswich Town.

Given that he has entered into the final year of his contract, there is much uncertainty regarding Alexander-Arnold’s long-term future at Liverpool.

Meanwhile, it was a frustrating afternoon for United manager Erik ten Hag, who was ripped into by Sky Sports commentator and former Red Devils defender Gary Neville.

‘Ten Hag is going to have to get the club into a position, sort of challenging the Champions League towards Christmas, or else he’s going to be in trouble.

‘He knows that. He’s been influenced to change his team, his staff. In the summer, he’s brought two new coaches in, that is not always ideal as well. So there’s new messaging coming in, even though he’s been here for two years. There’s new technical directors, CEOs. There is a lot of change at the club.

‘There are a lot of staff that have been here a long time that are leaving as well. So there was going to be some pain along the way of actually, if you like, interfering with the Glazer ownership. We’re seeing that pain right here today.

‘It’s not going to change quickly. It’s a sobering day for United, but one that I think just requires some calm, because we wanted a change of ownership, and we’ve got that, and there are some things happening, and we have to let it settle and embed in.’

United have taken just three points from their opening three matches and find themselves down in 14th place in the table, already six points adrift of Manchester City and Liverpool.
