Trent Alexander-Arnold’s telling two-word update as Liverpool reunion nears

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been sidelined for a month with a hamstring injury, but the England full-back has hinted that he’s closing in on a return to action for Real Madrid

Trent Alexander-Arnold has given a hint that he’s on track to be fit for a reunion with his former team, Liverpool, next month. The England international ended his time with his childhood club this summer when he made a £10m move to Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old was initially set to transfer to the Bernabeu on a free deal, as his contract with the Reds was due to end, but the Spanish league giants ultimately paid Liverpool to release the defender from the final month of his contract so he could play for them in the FIFA Club World Cup.

So far, Alexander-Arnold has played in 10 matches for Real Madrid, but his start in Spain has been somewhat mixed.

He found himself in and out of Xabi Alonso’s starting line-up and only started two La Liga games before suffering a hamstring injury in the early moments of his new team’s 2-1 win over Marseille in the Champions League in mid-September.

Having now been sidelined for a month, there were initial doubts about whether Alexander-Arnold would be fit to face Liverpool in the Champions League next month.

The Reds are scheduled to host Real Madrid at Anfield on November 4.

However, the defender has now given Real Madrid a boost after he was seen returning to light training during the October international break.

On Wednesday, Alexander-Arnold posted two photos of himself training on the grass with a ball on his Instagram account, along with a third image of him giving a thumbs up to the camera from the plunge pool.

Alongside the photos, he penned: “Back soon,” followed by both a ‘soon with rightwards arrow’ and ‘hourglass with flowing sand’ emojis.

The Athletic reported on Monday that Real Madrid’s medical team are hopeful that Alexander-Arnold could now recover from his injury in time to face Barcelona in the season’s first El Clasico on October 26.

The Spanish titans return to action following the international break away at Getafe on October 19, before welcoming Juventus in the Champions League on October 22.

They entertain Valencia on November 1 before their journey to Anfield on November 4.

Alexander-Arnold has been absent for five matches so far due to his hamstring injury.
