Tuchel about Hoeneß‘ criticism: „I‘m injured in my coaching honour“

„FC Hollywood“ in full form! In a recent interview with the „Frankfurter Allgemeine“, Bayern icon Uli Hoeneß criticised Thomas Tuchel‘s ability to develop players. Bayern‘s coach reacted to those comments just before the game against Frankfurt.

Uli Hoeneß has always been a man to polarise on all fronts – even within his own club. Although he‘s „only“ working as an advisor for Bayern Munich, his opinion is still regarded very highly.

In Bayern‘s quest for a new coach, many names have been and are being discussed. Over 10.000 FCB fans have even signed a petition to keep Thomas Tuchel at the club – but that looks more than unlikely.

In an interview with the FAZ („Frankfurter Allgemeine“), Uli Hoeneß has commented on Bayern‘s search for a new coach. In said interview, Hoeneß not only criticised the dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann in 2023, he also talked negatively about some qualities of current Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel:

„Tuchel doesn’t think he can improve a Davies, a Pavlović or a Musiala. If it doesn’t work, [he thinks] you should buy another one – I don’t like that, I think it should always be your job as a coach to improve the players you have to your disposal.“

In an interview with Sky Germany reporter Patrick Wasserziehr just before the game against Frankfurt, Tuchel reacted to Hoeneß‘ words and said:

„That’s so far from reality, I don’t even know how to answer it. I’m injured in my coaching honour. If we have proven something over the past 15 years, it is that players from the academy always have a place with us if they perform well. I have little understanding of it [Uli’s statement]. I think it’s absolutely baseless.“

Most clubs would want to be working as quietly and calmly before a semifinal in the Champions League against Real Madrid – but FC Bayern haven‘t gotten the nickname „FC Hollywood“ for nothing. And if there were any doubts about Tuchel‘s time at Bayern coming to an end in the summer, this exchange of blows will have put those to an end.
