Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has been battling the flu this week, but is expected to lead his team into Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

“He will come to Säbener Strasse today and lead the training session, but he will deliberately keep his time here short,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said at a press conference on Friday.

“He is on the road to recovery. We are optimistic that he will be at the game tomorrow.”

Tuchel will have two new options in his squad for tomorrow’s game, with new signings Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza both in line for inclusion.

“Basically, we are happy to have more options and a bigger squad. That’s very important for training and for the next few weeks. We also have some injured players who are not yet available. So it’s not a big squad at the moment, but it’s a good squad,” Freund said, adding that Noussair Mazraoui could also make the squad after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.

There have been suggestions that Sacha Boey could make an immediate impact at right-back. Freund didn’t reveal much about the new signing’s chances of starting, saying only that it will be up to the coaching staff to make a decision.

“Thomas hasn’t seen much of him in training because he’s been ill. He has arrived well, trained well and everything has happened very quickly for him. Basically he’s ready, he was in rhythm at Galatasaray. Whether he starts is a decision for the coaching staff.”
