The 51-year-old has been out of work since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season and he has been heavily linked with replacing Erik ten Hag at Manchester United in recent weeks.

Tuchel is reportedly one of the candidates to take over at Old Trafford if Ten Hag is sacked, however he is also in discussions regarding the vacant England job, as per BILD reporter Christian Falk.

The Three Lions are yet to appoint a permanent replacement for Gareth Southgate and Tuchel is now in talks over the role.

Southgate resigned as England boss following their 2-1 defeat to Spain in the 2024 European Championship final, and U21 manager Lee Carsley was handed the reins on an interim basis.

Carsley has been in charge for England’s last three matches, but his chances of landing the job permanently were damaged by a shock 2-1 loss to Greece on Thursday night.

The interim England boss opted for a bold team selection at Wembley and his decision to start Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon in the same system backfired massively.

Carsley remains the favourite to become Southgate’s permanent replacement, although Tuchel, Eddie Howe, Graham Potter and even Pep Guardiola have been linked with the role in recent weeks.

What has Lee Carsley said?

Despite the fact he appears to be the frontrunner for the job, Carsley has admitted he is hoping to return to his role as England U21 manager.

After the defeat to Greece, he told reporters: “I was quite surprised after the last camp in terms of [people saying] the job’s mine and it’s mine to lose and all the rest of it.

“My remit has been clear. I’m doing three camps, there’s three games left and then hopefully I’ll be going back to the 21s. It’s had almost no impact.”
