Igor Tudor insists Juventus ‘can obviously win the Scudetto’ this season and the showdown with Inter is ‘worth more than three points,’ but he trusts Dusan Vlahovic to stay focused.

The Derby d’Italia with Inter kicks off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin on Saturday at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).

“This is a game that is worth more than three points, so it is easier for me to prepare these matches,” Tudor told DAZN Italia.

“Inter are a great team, they have players who are already mature and experienced. We’ll have our say, we want to focus on our strengths and then work on our weaknesses. At the end of the day, we’ll see who does better.”

While Inter and Napoli have been mentioned as the likely contenders for the Serie A title, Tudor insists they should not rule out the Old Lady.

“Obviously this team can fight to win the Scudetto. At the start of the season in a couple of team meetings, I talked about the possibility of winning the league and our objectives, but then I closed the door and won’t talk about it again. I only talk about concrete things, you have to achieve results, not talk about them.”

Vlahovic was widely expected to leave this summer, as his contract only runs to the end of the current campaign, but the failure to sell has seen him welcomed back into the fold.

“It is an unusual situation with his contract running down, but he is only 25 years old, he is still maturing as a person. His best years are ahead of him, he’s not even halfway through his career,” noted Tudor.

“He found the strength to be concentrated in a super difficult moment. I try to give him love when he needs love, and punishment when he needs that.”

However, the coach has found he doesn’t need to say much at all to Kenan Yildiz.

“The other day I was talking to the squad and noted I never say anything to Yildiz in front of the others, because he does everything he needs to do. The difference is made by the motivation you have every day, and Yildiz is proving he has that. He has everything it takes to be a top player.”

Juventus have notably improved their defensive solidity since Gleison Bremer returned from his torn anterior cruciate ligament.

“Gleison is enormously important in so many ways, both as a player and a leader. The locker room needs him and his charisma. He’s good as gold, always at the disposal of his teammates.”

Tudor spent much of his playing career at Juventus, then returned as assistant manager to Andrea Pirlo, so how does it feel to be the head coach?

“Wonderful. I didn’t play as much as I wanted to, because I had ankle injuries and had to retire early, so I felt that I didn’t give as much as I could’ve done. When I started coaching at the age of 31, I dreamed of leading Juventus, because I felt that I owed the club something.”

If he could bring in a former teammate from the past to his current Juventus, who would it be?

“Zinedine Zidane. Zizou is football.”
