UEFA Supercup Preview – PSG vs Spurs

Wednesday 13th of August 2025
KO: 20:00 BST
Stadio Friuli, Udine

Wednesday will see the UEFA Supercup take place as Champions League winners Paris Saint Germain take on Europa League victors Tottenham Hotspur At Udinese’s Stadio Friuli.

PSG have previously been runners-up in the competition, while Tottenham are making their first appearance in the final.

PSG will be seen as heavy favourites for the match having just won the biggest prize in club football, while Spurs could face teething problems in what will be their first competitive match under new boss Thomas Frank. With that said, the Parisians’ last final ended in a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Club World Cup, and the Lilywhites will be hoping to replicate that kind of script.

Historically, 29 of the 49 previous fixtures have been won by the Champions League-winning side, with the current holders being Real Madrid who defeated Atalanta 2-0 in 2024.

The French side will likely be less rested than Spurs, with the heavy demand of their four-trophy season and the Club World Cup asking a lot of the players.

There will be a hunger from Spurs to get a second trophy over the line following so long without one, and Thomas Frank may have extra motivation in proving he is equal to the task of replacing Ange Postecoglou. It would also mark the first trophy in his managerial career so far.

Luis Enrique meanwhile will want to shake off the shock defeat in the CWC and set the wheels in motion for another trophy-laden season for les Parisiens.

Team News

PSG will be missing key midfielder Joao Neves due to a two match suspension picked up for pulling Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella’s hair during the Club World Cup final.

Other than that, their team could be largely unchanged, other than new signing Lucas Chevalier potentially coming in for Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal.

Spurs have several players unavailable, including James Maddison who will be out for the majority of the season having torn his ACL, while Dejan Kulusevski and Radu Dragusin remain sidelined.

Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie are both doubts to make the starting XI, but have made the squad.

With their further reported targets of Savinho and Eberechi Eze not through the door yet, Spurs may find they don’t have the quality to compete with PSG.

Predicted Lineups

PSG: Chevalier, Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes, Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Ruiz, Doué, Dembelé, Kvaratskhelia

Spurs: Vicario, Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence, Palhinha, Bentancur, Sarr, Johnson, Richarlison, Kudus

The UEFA Supercup will kick off at 8pm BST on Wednesday.
