Unai Emery says he’ll demand as much from himself as he does from his players in his quest to re-establish Aston Villa as a dominant force in the Premier League on a regular basis.
This week marks two years since the Spaniard arrived at Villa Park, an appointment which has triggered an incredible turnaround in fortunes for the club.
Villa were outside the relegation zone on goal difference when Emery was appointed but last season they secured a top-four finish and a return to European football for the first time since 1983.
Emery’s side have lost just once in the league this season, to Arsenal, and are riding high at the top of the Champions League table after three victories from three games, including a famous home win over Bayern Munich .
But after watching his side throw away three points against Bournemouth after Evanilson’s 96th-minute equaliser, Emery acknowledges there is still room for improvement.

‘We have to be demanding, we have to try to understand how we want to get the level we are playing, keeping it,’ said Emery, who saw his side take the lead in the second half through Ross Barkley.
‘This is very demanding our way, very demanding for myself in how I take my decisions in everything, and how the players respond tactically and emotionally with our mentality.
‘(Yesterday) I am disappointed a little bit because there’s still work to do. But I am really happy with the team and the players. We had very good moments and a very good match but the result was not deserved. And why? Because we have to get better even playing well, sometimes it’s not enough.’
