USMNT legend Tony Meola suffers heart attack day before 56th birthday as former teammate Alexis Lalas leads tributes

US soccer legend Tony Meola suffered a heart attack on Thursday night, the day before the former goalkeeper’s 56th birthday, with well-wishes pouring in from around the globe.

Meola is best known as the starting goalkeeper for the United States men’s national team fore the 1994 World Cup, the most recent time the tournament was hosted in America before next summer’s extravaganza.

‘He’s in good spirits and doctors say he’ll be okay. He thanks everyone for the birthday wishes too,’ Tom Bogert reports.

More to come.
