Van Nistelrooy and Potter lined up for Premier League job

Leicester City have sacked Steve Cooper and could replace him with Graham Potter or Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Foxes decided to pull the trigger on Cooper on Sunday following a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea. Leicester struggled to create much going forward against the Blues and Jordan Ayew’s stoppage-time goal was a case of too little too late.

After the match, which took Leicester’s winless streak to four games, a frustrated Cooper took aim at referee Andrew Madley. “We’ve had some terrible luck with this referee. That’s continued today,” the coach said.

However, the Leicester bosses evidently didn’t seem to think that recent results have been purely down to poor officiating and decided to relieve Cooper of his duties after just 15 games in charge.

Van Nistelrooy, Potter lined up

Speculation surrounding a potential replacement has been quick to pick up steam. Already earlier this week, before Cooper’s sacking was made official, former Man Utd interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy was mooted as a potential replacement.

The Dutchman has also been associated with the Burnley job in the Championship, while his former side Hamburger SV just sacked their coach, though it remains to be seen if he could be an option for the fallen German giant.

In addition to Van Nistelrooy, Graham Potter is also emerging as an option as he remains out of a job. Sacked by Chelsea in 2023, the Englishman recently admitted that he’s keen to get back in the game.

So far, however, no job has appealed to him despite frequent links to various clubs over the past 12 months. In the summer, he was in talks with Ajax but decided against moving to the Netherlands.

Leicester are currently 16th in the table, two points above the relegation zone.
