Patrick Vieira feels Genoa ‘deserved a point’ from their 1-0 defeat to Juventus, a recurring theme in their other matches against the big clubs this season.
The Grifone emerged empty-handed from the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin thanks to a Kenan Yildiz strike from a very difficult angle, but the visitors had more possession and more shots on goal overall.
“The team played with quality and character, so this was a performance that can do us good for the future,” Vieira told DAZN.
“I leave here with some disappointment, because I think the team deserved a point. I still believe we can learn from this going forward, both as a team and as individuals, because there are some young players here who are making real progress.”

The coach was asked why Ruslan Malinovskyi was only on the bench, as Jean Onana got his first Serie A start in midfield.
“Malinovskyi was ill for two days, he had a fever and didn’t train, so I didn’t want to risk him from the start. Onana, Frendrup and Masini did very well in midfield. We caused Juventus a lot of problems.”

Vieira sees a recurring theme to his tenure at Genoa, especially when they are up against the biggest clubs in Serie A, and it is one that is starting to frustrate the coach.
“When we look at the performances we had against Inter, Napoli, Milan and Juventus, we deserved more in all of them. It is important to work on the details, because those are ultimately what make the difference.
“It was a big chance with Andrea Pinamonti today and we should’ve scored. We can learn from this, certainly.”
The 48-year-old took over from sacked Alberto Gilardino on November 20, 2024 and has now overseen six victories, seven draws and five defeats on the Genoa bench.
His team were able to hold Milan to a 0-0 draw at San Siro, lost 2-1 at home to Napoli, 3-1 at Roma and 1-0 against both Inter and Juventus.
