Vincent Kompany believes Burnley’s approach in the transfer market will benefit the club in the future…even if they get relegated this season

Vincent Kompany believes that Burnley‘s approach to the transfer market since promotion stands them in good stead for the future – even if they go down.

Now eight points from safety, the Clarets need to string victories together if they are to preserve their Premier League status – starting with Saturday’s home clash against Fulham.

Kompany is attempting to tighten up a side leaking more than two goals a game with the deadline-day loan signings of defenders Lorenz Assignon and Maxime Esteve.

And the Burnley boss is adamant that their recruitment over the course of the last two windows works irrespective of how the season finishes.

‘It’s making sure that we’re getting profiles in that if we need to sell that they have value,’ Kompany said.

‘When you have (other) profiles of player, if they don’t work out for you it’s a high wage and you can’t shift them. Those profiles have killed a lot of clubs in the past.

‘There is a list of clubs who have suffered from that. It’s finding the balance. There is always a little bit of a middle ground. 

‘It’s making sure there is enough balance.’ Kompany, who allowed Connor Roberts and Anass Zaroury to leave on Championship loan deals, added they will continue looking at selling stars at the right time.

He added: ‘We don’t have sovereign wealth to support the club, we don’t have some magic credit card. It’s important to have the possibilities of extra revenue streams where needed. We can’t generate it any other way than, at times, player sales.’
