Vinicius Junior could become the world’s most expensive player this coming summer.

The Brazilian superstar is entering the final two years of his contract at Real Madrid and so Los Blancos are considering selling to avoid him leaving for free.

And The Telegraph is reporting that one of the Saudi Pro League clubs owned by the nation’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) will be given the chance to bid for Vini Jr. and potentially match or even surpass the €222 million fee that PSG paid Barcelona to sign Neymar back in 2017.

That fee smashed the world record at the time and has proven a fee that no one club is willing to match or surpass, but the Saudi Pro League may be about to change all that with Vini potentially joining one of Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad or Al-Nassr.

Vinicius has grown and matured from a troubled teenager with no end product into a talismanic figure for Real Madrid.

The winger has become one of the most feared players on the planet with his devastating combination of speed and skill.

A big game player, Vini has dominated El Clásico, taken down Liverpool and scored a goal in each of Real Madrid’s last two Champions League final wins.

Turning 25 in the summer, it would be a shock to see Vini depart Europe at what is essentially the peak of his powers, but with that expiring contract and the huge amount of money a renewal would cost, it may make financial sense for Madrid to cut ties now. Especially given the rising prominence of Kylian Mbappé.

Mbappe or Vinicius?

Real Madrid have courted Kylian Mbappe for years. They took him on trial as a youngster, but he chose Monaco for his development. Then they tried to sign him from Monaco, but he chose PSG to remain in France.

After years of rejecting Real Madrid’s overtures, the so-called best player in the world finally moved to the Spanish capital in the summer of 2024.

The problem is that Mbappe and Vini both thrive in the same position, playing in that left half-space and cutting into the middle.

Both men are so talented that they have been able to fumble their way to victories through the season but neither man is truly comfortable against organised defences and the best thing for Madrid as a team would be for one to leave and a true no. 9 signed to lead the line and be an attacking pivot for Mbappe or Vini (as well as Jude Bellingham). But the problem is who do you sell and how, given their massive quality, do you make the sale even happen?

Well, now the Saudi Pro League may have solved that problem for Real Madrid.
