Vitor Pereira set to sign new Wolves contract despite horror start to the season – with under-fire owners offering head coach improved terms

Vitor Pereira is close to signing a new three-year contract at Wolves even though his team have started the season with four straight defeats.

The Portuguese’s current deal expires at the end of the campaign and the Molineux hierarchy are prepared to overlook the worrying early-season form to hand him improved terms.

Pereira did an outstanding job last season when he replaced Gary O’Neil last December.

Taking over with the club staring at relegation, Pereira eventually led them to a comfortable survival.

The summer was challenging for Wolves, with key players Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo all departing, and replaced by signings who lack Premier League experience.

A significant section of the Wolves support has long been fed up with chairman Jeff Shi and owners Fosun and the mood will turn dark on Saturday if Wolves cannot find a way past promoted Leeds at home.

Wolves are bottom of the Premier League but Pereira rescued them from relegation last season

Last summer, Wolves rewarded O’Neil and his staff with new contracts, only to sack him before the year was out.

They are confident they will not have to do the same with Pereira.
