Rudi Völler has renewed his contract as sporting director of the German national team.

The 63-year-old’s deal has been extended from this summer until 2026.

“In the past 14 months of my job, I have noticed that I have grown more and more fond of my responsible role at the DFB every day. What perhaps began as a feeling of obligation to Germany, the association and the national team has long since become a personal matter,” said Völler.

“As the head of the senior national team, I want to use my experience to help ensure that Germany’s most important football team is successful again, but also beyond this summer’s European Championship.

“I really enjoy working with all the people in charge at the DFB, from the senior national team down to the youth teams. Together we now want to organize a wonderful European Championship in Germany and then take the momentum with us for further tasks.”

DFB president Bernd Neuendorf describes Völler as an important “advisor” – for him as well as for the coaches and players.

“He has a positive influence on the national team. I am very happy that we were able to convince Rudi to stay with the DFB beyond 2024. After a few difficult years, there is a lot of enthusiasm for the national team again. In addition to the outstanding work of Julian Nagelsmann and his team, this is also thanks to Rudi Völler,” Neuendorf said.
