The lowdown on Arsenal’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain as Mikel Arteta’s side attempt to overturn a one-goal deficit to reach the final
Arsenal must overturn a first-leg deficit against Paris Saint-Germain to reach the Champions League final for just the second time in their history. The Gunners trail by a single goal in the semi-final after Ousmane Dembele stunned the Emirates when he struck inside four minutes.
Although Mikel Merino had a second-half goal ruled out for offside, PSG substitute Goncalo Ramos struck David Raya’s crossbar in the closing stages. Should they keep the hosts out on Wednesday evening, just the two goals will be enough to send Mikel Arteta’s side through without the need of penalties.
The away goals rule no longer applies in UEFA competitions, meaning one will bring it back to all square and force extra-time. While Luis Enrique’s impressive side will be the favourites to reach the final in Munich, it’s still all to play for in the French capital, as Mirror Football brings you everything you need to know about the big game…
When is PSG vs Arsenal?
The game at the Parc des Princes is due to kick-off at 8pm on Wednesday, May 7. Arteta will be expecting a reaction from his players, both from the first leg and from the surprise home defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend.
The Gunners boss said: “We are at half-time, and my message is exactly the same as it was after we beat Real Madrid 3-0 in the first leg of the quarter-final. We have to go to Paris and win the game, and we are more than capable of doing it.
“If you want to win the Champions League final, you have to do something special, and we are going to have to do something special in Paris to be there. We still have a lot of chances to be in that final.”
How to watch PSG vs Arsenal
After the first leg was broadcast on Prime Video, which gets the first pick of Tuesday’s Champions League action, the decider will be shown by TNT Sports, which holds the majority of rights for UEFA’s club competitions. Coverage on TNT Sport 1 and the accompanying Discovery Plus app, where fans can live stream the action, gets underway an hour before kick-off at 7pm.
BBC One’s Champions League show, starting at 10.40pm, will show highlights from both semi-finals, while there’ll be full radio commentary on BBC 5 Live and talkSPORT.
Team news
The Gunners have numerous injury doubts ahead of the second leg. Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Jesus and Takehiro Tomiyasu are definitely sidelined for the rest of the season.
Kai Havertz has an outside chance of playing again before the end of the campaign, although the second leg will come too soon, while Jorginho’s injury has been described as more complicated than initially thought.
Riccardo Calafiori has a chance of being involved after his knee injury. There have been concerns surrounding club captain Martin Odegaard, who came off after getting a kick against Bournemouth.
Unlike Arteta, whose side are not completely assured of the top-five finish they need to secure Champions League football again if they don’t win the competition, Enrique had the luxury of making wholesale changes for their Ligue 1 game against Strasbourg at the weekend. Still, Dembele (hamstring) is a big doubt for the second leg.
