Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany saw the funny side of things when he slipped on the field during his side’s Champions League clash with Celtic.

The Scottish champions gave their German counterparts an enormous fright in the Allianz Arena as the eventual winners giants scrapped past the Brendan Rodgers‘ side with a stoppage-time winner.

Having led 2-1 from the first leg in the UK, many thought the return game in Munich would be a formality that would send Bayern through to the last-16. That was not the case.

Nicolas Kuhn upset the odds when he netted the opener just after the hour mark, with Harry Kane and Co struggling to break down a resilient away defence.

Eventually, they did so, with Alphonso Davies netting the winner deep into stoppage time to send Bayern through 3-2 on aggregate.

And it didn’t come without a hilarious moment either, with Bayern boss Kompany sent flying as he tried to speed things up on the field.

The incident happened in the second half of the game, with Kompany’s Bayern trailing 1-0 and the stadium somewhat silent as they were taken aback.

After a quick throw was taken, a ball began to bounce towards the pitch, with former Manchester City captain Kompany running forward to try and stop it from crossing the white line.

In doing so, though, he slipped on the field, hitting the deck in his all-black oufit and inadvertently knocking the ball further onto the pitch.

Still, he was all smiles, laughing at he jumped back onto his feet as the crowd jeered and Celtic boss Rodgers watched on.

Rodgers, meanwhile, was full of ‘immense pride’ for his team after they secured ‘European credibility’ on Tuesday.

‘I can only take immense pride from the performance. The guys gave everything,’ he said. ‘European credibility was always going to be important for us this season. That’s my takeaway from this campaign, from the 10 games. We learnt some valuable lessons along the way, we played some amazing football along the way.

‘We’ve taken a club of this size and magnitude and a club where one of the players is maybe more than our budget. So, everything that comes with that, it allows us to build. Last year I felt that we had developed, even though we never got the points. Performance-wise it was good. I think this season has been very good. We’ve made the progress that made me want to come back.

‘Now we’ve got to finish the season off strong. We’ve got two titles to go for, get into the Champions League next season, look to build the squad again.

‘My unswerving plan is to make this a seasoned club at this level, where we can hurt big opponents like Bayern Munich.’
