Many have tipped Schlotterbeck to take over the captain’s armband in Dortmund and with his mentality, it is clear to see why.

For many, the 2025-26 Bundesliga title is almost a foregone conclusion given Bayern Munich’s strong start to the campaign.
However, this feeling isn’t shared by Borussia Dortmund’s centre-half Nico Schlotterbeck who hopes to lift the Meisterschale come May.
“We want to win titles again with BVB. The last one was in 2021 with the DFB Cup – that was a while ago,” he said, speaking to WAZ.
“We players didn’t come to BVB just to play for Champions League qualification or to be eliminated early in the cup,” he added.
The 25-year-old isn’t the only member of Niko Kovač’s squad that underlined their ambitions for the season as Maxi Beier did similar:
“Our goal is: We want to become champions, to be among the top players throughout the entire season,” he told Sky after BVB’s win in Heidenheim.
