Werder Bremen keeping tabs on possible Weiser replacement

Werder Bremen keeping tabs on possible Weiser replacement

Since starplayer Mitchell Weiser is going to miss many games injured, Bremen are currently scouting the market for a possible back-up or even replacement.

Werder Bremen experienced a bad start to the 2025/26 season: they’ve just been eliminated by Arminia Bielefeld in the first round of the DFB-Pokal!

In addition to that, they are really missing key players from last season so far, like Marvin Ducksch (transfer to Birmingham) and Mitchell Weiser (injury).

New headcoach Horst Steffen and the Bremen board have now decided to scout the market for a possible Weiser back-up or even replacement – and are keeping tabs on Steffen’s former Elversberg rightback Elias Baum!

Baum, who had a stellar season on loan at Elversberg in 2024/25, is now back with his parent club Eintracht Frankfurt – but they are yet to make a decision on his immediate future.

While Baum is seen as one of Germany’s best rightbacks in the forseeable future, another loan move could be the better next step for Baum – that’s why Bremen are waiting for Frankfurt’s decision.

Steffen is very keen on bringing the 19-year-old in, who made 37 appearances under him, in which he scored 3 goals and assisted a further 8 – as a rightback!

Let’s see if Baum could be the solution to Bremen’s problems – if he gets Frankfurt’s approval to leave on loan.
