Here’s what Die Roten Bullen’s head coach had to say in his press conference.

As RB Leipzig prepare for their DfB-Pokal meeting with SV Sandhausen, head coach Ole Werner answered questions in the mixed room.

The 37-year-old clarified his choice at goalkeeper, revealed his new captain for the season and gave a short personnel update.

“Maarten [Vandvoordt] will be in goal against Sandhausen. Pete [Gulacsi] will start the season as the number one, as he leads the field in the team’s performance ratings.

“Both enjoy our full confidence, and we’re happy to have such quality in that position – so the decision was anything but easy. It’s a real luxury for the team to have two great goalkeepers.

“David Raum will be captain not only in Sandhausen, but for the entire season. We want to give more players greater responsibility, and we chose David because he is predestined for this role.

“We’re choosing David because we believe he embodies everything we want to see from the team: this hunger, this potential for development, and this aggressiveness,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lukas Klostermann is still out with a calf problem, while Benny Henrichs is also not yet available. Tidiam Gomis and Andrija Maksimovic are also ruled out.
