West Ham decide to KEEP Callum Wilson after late winner against Tottenham – days after holding talks to terminate his contract

Callum Wilson will no longer leave West Ham in the January transfer window after the club decided to keep him to bolster their fight against Premier League relegation.

The 33-year-old has been a bit-part player under Nuno Espirito Santo and was poised to cancel his contract this week with Everton, Celtic and Saudi side Al Shabab among those showing interest.

But with his last-gasp winner on Saturday securing the Hammers a vital three points away to Tottenham, Wilson will no longer leave the London Stadium.

Brought to West Ham in August 2025 on a heavily incentivised contract until the end of the season, Wilson had been seeking more first-team football and his goal against Spurs may now see him awarded that.

Celtic had considered a loan for the nine-cap England striker, while Everton were weighing up their options for the former Newcastle and Bournemouth man, who has scored 93 times in 257 Premier League appearances.

In a bid for more goals, Espirito Santo added firepower in the form of strikers Taty Castellano and Pablo Felipe to his squad this month and confirmed he had held discussions about ending Wilson’s contract early.

‘Me and Callum we had a lot of conversations, just 10 minutes ago we were speaking about that situation,’ he said last week.

‘Two strikers have joined, correct. I personally decided these strikers have joined. Callum is a very experienced man, he’s been in the game for so much time, he knows that his position has changed.

‘We were honest with each other. Yes, your position has changed, but you are still a player for the club and we still maybe need him and he should help us because he joined us.’

Should he not be kept on after this season, Wilson will be free to join another club in the summer.

There still could be outgoings in the West Ham camp, however, with Flamengo expected to resume talks over a possible deal for Lucas Paqueta. The midfielder missed Saturday’s win over Spurs and remains keen on a return to Brazil.

The Hammers may consider a sale if Paqueta is loaned back but that does not appeal to Flamengo, who want him in their squad immediately.
