West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer is reportedly closing in on a loan move to Ligue 1 side Monaco in the hope of earning a spot in Germany’s squad for this summer’s home European Championship

The former PSG player featured prominently for the London club after joining in 2022 but he has since found game time hard to come by.

The improved form of right-back Vladimir Coufal and – most crucially – the arrival and performance of Konstantinos Mavropanos at centre-back has restricted the German to just 18 minutes of Premier League action.

According to The Standard, talks with Adi Hutter’s side and the Hammers have continued over the past week ahead of a deal that is expected to include an option to buy.

Serie A side Roma are also reported to be one of several others clubs that remain interested in the 27-year-old.

Kehrer was part of the Germany squad that crashed out at the group stages of the 2022 World Cup but he has not featured for the national side since June. He has earned 27 caps in total.

New boss Julian Nagelsmann has chosen to overlook the defender in each of his squads, leaving Kehrer with an uphill battle to force his way into the reckoning.

Said Benrahma is attracting interest from Lyon and Fulham, while Pablo Fornals could also be available, though the injury to Lucas Paqueta could complicate matters.
