West Ham are in talks to re-sign goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski after releasing him earlier this summer.
The former Poland international left the Hammers after seven years and 216 appearances when his contract expired on 30 June, having joined the club from Swansea in 2018.
Fabianski remained a free agent throughout the summer, and he could now be set for a surprise return to East London. Although the window is closed, Bosman deals can still be completed by Premier League clubs.
According to Sky Sports, the 40-year-old is officially in talks with West Ham to re-join the club after third-choice goalkeeper Wes Foderingham departed for Cypriot side Aris Limassol on Monday.
The former Arsenal shot-stopper’s return to West Ham would complete what has been quite a bizarre summer of goalkeeper transfers for the Premier League outfit.
West Ham’s goalkeeper turmoil
The goalkeeper position has been an area of concern for the Hammers for quite some time. Fabianski has alternated with Alphonse Areola in recent years, but both have all too frequently made high-profile mistakes.
The situation was supposed to be rectified this summer, with West Ham holding talks for Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor and Leicester City star Mads Hermansen.
Despite having a deal agreed for Victor, West Ham abandoned the Brazilian to sign Hermansen instead. However, the Denmark international endured an incredibly wobbly start to his Hammers career, prompting the club to reopen talks with Victor.
The damage had been, however, and he ended up joining Nottingham Forest instead, becoming one of four key Botafogo players to move to the City Ground this summer.
Fabianski making a surprise return would be a fitting end to West Ham’s unusual summer of goalkeeper uncertainty.
