The German Football Association had a special surprise in store for Joshua Kimmich, who was touched to discover he would walk out for his 100th cap hand in hand with his own son.

Wednesday marked a special occasion for Joshua Kimmich, who made his 100th appearance for Germany in their 1-2 defeat to Portugal in the UEFA Nations League.

The milestone was made even more memorable thanks to a heartwarming surprise from the German Football Association, who had secretly arranged for Kimmich to walk out onto the pitch hand in hand with his son.

“What?!” a stunned Kimmich exclaimed in the players’ tunnel, pulling his son into a tight hug before taking his hand.

Despite the frustration of the loss, the 30-year-old expressed pride in reaching the landmark.

“It was actually very emotional to walk out with my son,” Kimmich said in a post-match interview.

“Playing 100 games for Germany is something truly special for me. Especially when I look back – I was never a standout talent or a rising star in my youth. I had to work incredibly hard for everything.”
